I met a new friend the other day. Not in real-life, though. I met her through my blog; she wrote to me, asking if I would write to her and I did. Heather didn’t want to discuss food or books or the weather.
She wanted to tell me how she was a seven-year survivor of mesothelioma – a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure. Heather wants to spread awareness about this disease that almost took her life. Imagine, she was married and had just given birth to a beautiful baby girl when she learned in November 2005 that she had malignant pleural mesothelioma.
I was amazed to parts of her story and will finish reading and catching up with Heather over the weekend. She blogs through the Mesothelioma website, which is filled with tons of information. Please go to her blog and read her incredible story with me. Heather Von St. James has been through so much, and she IS a survivor.
Recently, her father received news from his doctor about cancer; but he’s a fighter, too. Heather learned how to fight from him 🙂
Heather has so much to be thankful for and so do I.
It’s been a rough year for my entire family: hubby was in the hospital in March, July, September, October, November and December. He’s hardly been “home” since September’s aortic dissection. We owe the hospital a ton of money. We’re not ready for the poor house, though because we are rich: rich in the love that we have for each other, the fact that hubby IS a survivor, our son is healthy, we have a roof over our head, food in the kitchen and God’s love.
Who could ask for more? I am blessed beyond measure.
